Arsenal's success in the transfer window is shown by how hard it was for City to sign Gvardiol

After doing well early in the window, Arsenal is happy to see that Manchester City is having trouble signing Josko Gvardiol.

There were rumors that Manchester City was about to sign Josko Gvardiol, but it looks like the move won't happen. Remember how serious the Declan Rice deal got as Arsenal tried to get their top priority?

The Guardian's Fabrizio Romano said that Man City and RB Leipzig had agreed on a price to buy Gvardiol and that the player had finished the first part of his medical. But since then, Marco Rose, the head coach of Leipzig, has said that this might not be the case.

"Josko is a player for us, and as far as I know, he will stay a player for us," he said. "I don't know anything about a medical check, a first check, or a second check.

"I think that if it was, I would know as head coach!"

Interesting. It looks like the deal isn't going as well as planned, which shows again how well Edu Gaspar, Arsenal's sports director, has done at getting the club's top moves this summer.

In addition to Rice, Arsenal has brought in Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber, both of whom played well in Thursday's preseason game against the MLS All-Stars. The quick business gave Mikel Arteta early access to his new stars so he could start integrating them into the group as soon as possible before the new season.

In the Community Shield, Arsenal will play Man City. It will give us a good idea of how the two teams might do in the coming season, even though Liverpool's win in the 2022 match-up led to a very different result at the end of the season.

So far, though, Man City's only signing, Matteo Kovacic, Ilkay Gundogan's leave, and the possible losses of Joao Cancelo, Bernardo Silva, and Riyad Mahrez can be seen as a chance for Arsenal. For the Gunners' title foes, the end of the window is sure to be a busy one.
